Isaac Warden Lewis
There was a very, very big pig which was very proud of his fatness. Because
of that he considered himself as one that had done well in life. “I have
succeeded”, he used to say to himself.
He never realized that his fate, his life, his fatness
and his death had been scheduled by the gains or losses of a capitalistic
farming. He did not know that he was solely an economic unity of the
capitalistic mind of the farmer.
One day he said to his kin: “Let’s make a house for us. Everybody has
a house. We must have a shelter to protect us against the sun and the rain. The
other pigs agreed. They gather themselves. Brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers,
uncles, aunts, sons, daughters and friends. Everyone wanted to help because
most animals have a socialistic instinct. In fact, they realized that from
birth to death, they depended, in one way or another, on the work of others.
They began the construction of their house happily.
One brought bricks, another brought woods, another brought cement, another
brought tools. Everyone brought something or did something to help build the
house. The big pigs, the little pigs and even the new-born pigs, all
contributed in one way or another.
The
new-born pigs contributed in a very unique way. Every time when pigs were born,
the work was momentarily paralysed in order to welcome them merrily with drinks
and dancing and many congratulations to
one another. Everybody was happy and eager to go back to work when the feast
finished.
The
big pig commanded the work for he was elected to direct the work once he had
suggested it. Very proudly he said to the others: “Let’s do this”, “Let’s put
that here”, “Bring that”, “Let’s carry this”, “Tell the carpenter to come here”,
“Call the mason” and so on.
After
work, at night, when talking to his mates, he would say: “We are building a house, we are doing
this, we are going to do that and so on. But funny as it may be his language
began to change, but nobody noticed that for a long, long time. He said
instead: “Do that”, “Carry this”, “Tell the mason to come here”< “Don’t do
that”, “Don’t put that there”, and so on. After work at night, when talking to
one or another, he would say:”I am building a house”, “I am doing this”, “I am
doing that”, “I am going to do a lot of things interesting for my house”, and
so on.
The
pigs continued to build the house. They did everything the great boss commanded
them to do. The big pig was called the big boss now. The pigs finished the
construction of the house. The big boss suggested that they had to fence in the
house in order to protect it from invaders. The other pigs began to think that
something was wrong. They wanted to know why the big boss wanted to fence in their house. Some of
the pigs realized that for a long time the big boss referred to the pigs’ house
as “my house”. These pigs realized that the big pig decided to expel the workers
from “his house”. These pigs decided to leave the work and went into the forest
to find another place to live. A few pigs remained working for the big pig.
They fenced the land where the house was located.
As
soon as the fence was finished, the big boss suggested that they ought to make
a gate. After the gate was ready, he told the pigs that they were free so they could leave the house and wander
through the neighbouring forest and come back when they pleased. The pigs
became happy to be free for a while. They spent the whole day in the forest. At
night they returned home. They found the gate closed. The house was closed. The
big pig did not bother to open the door of the house and neither he bother to
open the gate. The pigs could not enter their house. They were expelled from it
by the big pig. He began to tell everybody that he constructed the house by
himself.
